3D-based robot technology: Adaptive handling for Mitsubishi Electric robots
Nuremberg/Ratingen, 26 November 2013
Visitors to the Mitsubishi Electric stand (Hall 7, Stand 380) at this year’s SPS IPC Drives will be able to experience live the latest developments in the field of 3D-based robotics. Mitsubishi Electric, along with partner isys vision GmbH, will be presenting the RoboView 3D stereo vision system that allows adaptive handling by MELFA robots. For the trade fair, the system has been integrated in one of the new RV-4FM articulated robots from Mitsubishi Electric.
RoboView 3D from isys vision allows Mitsubishi Electric robots to alter their predefined paths, to see the room and act adaptively. The key component of RoboView 3D is a compact stereo vision camera with an easily configurable image-processing system. With this, certain motion sequences such as gripping or stacking processes can be designed to be self-adapting within the robot controller and adapted to the environment which has been captured beforehand. Before an image is captured, the robot controller transmits the camera position to the vision system whereupon the object positions and dimensions as well as alignment will be calculated directly as robot system coordinates.
For example, situations where there are parts indeterminately lying on top of each other will push conventional 2D solutions to their limits as a rule. Spatial information is required in order to be able to clearly determine positions and identify objects. RoboView 3D enables robots to identify parts accurately even in these types of situation and to transfer them from one workstation to the next, store them or sort them. The solution that will be presented at SPS IPC Drives will showcase the stereo vision system in one of the new MELFA RV-4FM robots from the F series.
